Newborn Session Questions

  • When should I contact to book a newborn session? – Because I only photograph a certain amount of newborns each year, I highly suggest contacting me to book a newborn session within the first 3-4 months that you find out you are pregnant.
  • What should I bring to my newborn session? – I will actually send you a list! But, really the main things are a loose-fit outfit on baby (preferably something I will not have to remove over their head), extra diapers and wipes, a bottle of milk (if you are not breastfeeding,) a pacifier and an extra shirt for each parent for parent/baby photos – I do not recommend wearing you shirt to your session juuuust in case baby has an accident on you 😉
  • I try to photograph all newborns within the first 14 days of life, because this is when they are sleepiest and easiest to pose 🙂 However, I do understand that sometimes babies may need to be photographed at a different age due to NICU stay and will accommodate this to the best of my ability.
  • How do you schedule newborn sessions? – Once you book with me, I try to set a couple of tentative dates on my schedule, based off of your due date and then the possibility that baby could come sooner. If you find out you will be induced or have a c-section, please contact me with that date. Otherwise, I just ask that you contact me within the first two days that baby is born and we will set a definite date and time from there.
  • When do you typically photograph newborns? – I almost always photograph newborns on a weekday. I also try to photograph midday. I usually begin somewhere around 11am-1pm, but not any later than that, for optimal lighting 🙂
  • Do you photograph newborn lifestyle sessions? – Yes, a newborn lifestyle session though is focused more on the family with the newborn, photos of the newborn’s nursery and photos of baby un-posed in the nursery.

Alyson Summers:

Chantel is AMAZING! If you are looking for a photographer that really cares about you and pays attention to detail, Chantel is your girl. My husband and I had Chantel do our engagement photos and our wedding. She blew us away! Our engagement pictures took place on literally the hottest day in June and you could not tell and she didn’t rush us just because it was miserable outside. Our wedding day was December 18 and it was freezing! Chantel and her second shooter, Paige, still went outside like I wanted to get all the pretty pictures. I would recommend Chantel to everyone and anyone! She’s timely and organized, which is super important to me! You will not be disappointed with Chantel!

'This is a long overdo recommendation, but Chantel did an AMAZING job with our wedding photos! My wife and I wanted to thank you and Paige for making our wedding day experience so incredible. We are both very timid when it comes to having our picture taken, therefore we were a bit nervous about the experience. Your calm and enthusiastic nature made us feel comfortable, allowing us to relax and enjoy each moment of our day. To quote David, "It felt like we were with a friend all day." We also greatly appreciate your attention to details, timeliness, and creativity. Thank you for capturing our day for us, we will highly recommend your services to all of friends and family for any and all photography needs.'

'Chantel is absolutely amazing! She has taken our pictures over the last 7 years and we are always so happy with our pictures. She is so patient with our kids and somehow gets the perfect shots even when my kids are being crazy. We look forward to working with her again. Seriously, she’s the best.'
